Description

Cella Molnar & Associates was the public involvement consultant for the City of Fort Myers’ Hanson Street Extension, Phase II, from west of Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard to Ortiz Avenue.  The project included building new roadway, installing new sanitary sewer force main and potable and reclaim water mains with some existing water mains being relocated. The Hanson Street Extension follows the City’s “Complete Streets” initiative, as it includes bicycle and pedestrian-friendly features such as six-foot sidewalks, seven-foot bike lanes and two roundabouts. One roundabout is located at the Hanson Street and Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard intersection and the other is located at the Hanson Street Extension and Ortiz Avenue intersection.

CMA deliverables included project web page on the City’s utilities website, newsletter, preconstruction public meeting, ribbon cutting ceremony, press releases, and media packets.  Notification flyers regarding water shut-offs, boil water/rescission notices, road closure and shift notices and driveway/access changes were prepared and distributed to keep residents informed about construction. CMA worked with adjacent property owners on driveway transition issues and provided a 24-hour telephone hotline and project contact cards. CMA coordinated with the City of Fort Myers and Lee County staff and officials, police, fire, EMS, solid waste services, school transportation, and affected property/business owners and local media during the construction and was key to the success of the project.
